20 Resources That Will Make You Better At Jaguar Car Key Cover

Keyless Entry For Your Jaguar XK

Jaguar has left out the highly desired ability to control the convertible top's operation with the existing remote key fob. It would be useful to implement this, as it would help reduce wind buffeting while driving the XK.

Replace the battery if your Jaguar XF keyfob no longer works or if its range has diminished. Here's how you can do it.

Keyless Entry System

You should consider upgrading to keyless entry on your Jaguar XE if you've ever spent just a few minutes searching in your pockets or purse to locate your keys before heading out the door. This feature provides a level comfort and security that a lot of people like. The Jaguar key fob will sense when you're within range of your XE. With the key fob in close proximity and grabbing the door handle or pressing the button to release the luggage compartment will unlock your car.

Your Jaguar key fob comes with an electronic chip that allows it to communicate with the Jaguar's system to unlock doors open, operate the windows and sunroof, and even remotely start your engine. While the key fob has been designed with rubber seals to protect it from water damage, it's important to remove the key from the holder and wash the electronics exposed using the help of a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. Submerging the key fob in soapy or salty water can cause damage to the circuitry, which will require an upgrade of the key fob.

The Jaguar XK keyfob comes with the option to "double-lock" your vehicle. This provides additional security against theft. The Jaguar key fob might not function due to several reasons such as an insufficient battery within the keyfob, or a key that is not properly paired. The dealer will have to reprogramme the key.

Transponder Chip Keys

Jaguar introduced a new key type in 1998. The key required special equipment to program. These keys contain a transponder that disables the vehicle's immobiliser.  The Keylab  have to be integrated into the Jaguar's database keys, which is typically done by a dealer or locksmith. Contrary to popular belief, not all locksmiths or dealers are prepared to deal with this type of key. Some have even been reported to overcharge Jaguar customers for their services.

Tibbe Keys

Some Jaguars of the 1990s used what's known as the Tibbe Key. They require specialized equipment to make because they have flat cuts that are precise on four distinct sides. They are not interchangeable with regular keys, and many locksmiths don't have the equipment needed to cut them. This can cause long wait times for those who require replacement keys. Dealerships might be able to cut these, but they typically cost a significant amount.

The lock itself is quite interesting, as it consists of either 6 or 8 rotary discs that need to be aligned correctly so that the sidebar can fall into place and open the door or trunk lock. This is accomplished by using a specially-designed pick/decoder tool that appears like a drill bit, and it can be a bit challenging. This tool should only be used on the DOOR lock, and not the trunk or ignition lock.

A few locksmiths specialize in Tibbe keys, and their costs depend on a variety of factors like time work, effort, consumables equipment and so on. The adapter kit that is specialized to work with these kinds of keys can run several hundred dollars, and each has to be set up by hand (or a skilled programer can set it up on the computerized key machine) for every new key created.

Key Fob Battery Replacement

Most key fob batteries deteriorate over time, and it's essential to have a spare battery on hand. If the key fob stops responding to buttons or doesn't respond to them, it's time to replace it. Your Message Center may also alert you that your battery is low.

The good news is that changing the battery in your Jaguar key fob is simple and can be done in just a few moments in your garage. The first step is opening the fob's lid open using either a flat-headed screwdriver or your fingernail. There are typically two seams where the fob's two halves meet, and you will be able to gently pull them apart to expose the blade of emergency key.

Once the fob has been opened, you can move the key blade backwards to remove the cover to reveal the old battery. The battery will look like a coin with the sign of a plus and minus on one side. Make sure to insert a new battery that is the same size and orientation it correctly.

Be sure to handle the new battery only from its sides. Touching it from the top or bottom can transfer moisture and reduce battery life. Reassemble the fob and test the remote's buttons to see if it's working again. If not, contact your local Jaguar Annapolis service pros for additional assistance.
